Ground Transportation

SureShade recommends boat owners take proper precautions, including fully retracting and securing the sunshade system, before taking it on the road.

Although SureShade sunshade systems are designed for use on the water, there may be times when you need to transport it on land. Many boaters need to transport their boats on a daily basis via a boat trailer.

Boaters also often transport boats to a storage location or a warmer climate during the winter months, while some boaters may need to arrange for long-distance ground transportation for a permanent relocation.

SureShade Ground Transportation – Trailered Boats

SureShade has been tested to withstand speeds up to 55 MPH on the water with the shade fully extended. However, because highway speeds can often surpass 55 MPH, special precautions should be taken for boats that are transported with a trailer over the road.

Manual Sunshade System (RTX or MTF) Trailer Transport

  • Ensure the shade is in the retracted [closed] position.
  • The canvas should be wrapped with something and strapped in place so road debris does not hit it and damage the canvas.

Automated Sunshade System Trailer Transport

  • Ensure the shade is in the retracted [closed] position.
  • The canvas should be wrapped with something and strapped in place so road debris does not hit it and damage the canvas. This is especially important for rollers on the automated system where there is less tension than on the manual system and the wind can balloon the canvas at highway speed in the retracted position and cause damage.
  • Covering of the extending tubes are only needed if the boat is facing a direction where water and wind can enter the extending tubes of the actuator in the travel direction of transport (basically the extension of the shade should always face the rear of the vehicle).

SureShade Ground Transportation Preparation – Long Distance Transport

To ensure that the SureShade system is properly transported and avoid any potential service issues, please take the necessary precautions detailed below during transportation preparation.

Note: The below precautions are intended for the SureShade ATF or M3 automated sunshade systems which includes electrical components.

You Can’t Own a Boat Without Having a SureShade!

Love SureShade. SureShade solves our family's sun problems by providing coverage for the entire boat with ease. Setup is easy and quick, and nothing obstructs the fishing poles. I can even leave it out while underway - hit 30 knots without retracting the shades. Thank you for making this product a reality and supporting DIYers with older boats.

If it Doesn’t have a SureShade, it’s Just Another Boat!

We are so happy with our SureShade shade system and how essential it has become for our boat. As far as we are concerned, if it doesn't have a SureShade, it's not a boat!

Enhances the Value of My Boat

I love the fact that there are no straps or supports that might interfere with other activities on board. Aside from being very functional, I think it looks well integrated and enhances the value of the boat.

A Wonderful Addition!

SureShade was a wonderful addition to my boat and over the 2600 miles from Palm Beach to Lake Michigan I was asked at least a dozen times by boaters along the way about the shade.

I strongly recommend SureShade – don’t hesitate, just do it!

Our SureShade top turned out even better than expected! The shade now covers for full extent of the quarterdeck, with no side poles to get in the way of the fishing rods. It’s just a simple little exercise of winding the handle for the telescopic poles, and Hey Presto – instant shade.

Absolutely Necessary!

Absolutely necessary when grilling on our Boston Whaler 370 Outrage. One of the most important additions to our boat hands down. Would highly recommend an electronic SureShade to anyone who loves boating as much as we do.
