SureShade Solar Shade (SS Solar) utilizes a proprietary electro-mechanical “power rotating transfer coupler” (PRTC) – developed by SureShade’s parent company Rodan Enterprises – which allows the transmission of solar-generated electrical power from a flexible solar panel sewn into the canvas roller to a supplemental power source on the boat, such as a rechargeable battery.

The transmission from the solar panel to the coupler is effected by wires sewn directly into the seam of the shade’s canvas. The coupler, which is affixed to the canvas roller, then transfers that power to the supplemental power source which can then power electrical accessories incorporated into the shade framework itself (such as LED lighting), or provide a recharge to the primary power grid on the boat.

As the evolution of advanced technological features and accessories onboard continues to enhance the boating experience, the resultant increase in energy demand to power such auxiliary equipment is not always efficiently met by conventional power sources on a vessel.
